Dispute over blockers abandoned in Family Court, call for public enquiry
A dispute between the parents of a primary-school-age child over the use of puberty blockers has been suddenly settled when an expert witness’s recommendation of the use of the drugs was withdrawn.
Bernard Lane, who writes the Gender Clinic News substack, wrote “The litigation is significant not only because the gender clinic capitulated and withdrew its recommendation of puberty blockers, but also because it is believed to be the first instance where an Australian judge has had the benefit of multiple expert arguments against the case for trans medicalisation.”
Mr. Lane reported that Bill Kordos, a seasoned litigator with the national law firm AFL Kordos, called for a public inquiry into gender clinic medical interventions.
LGB Alliance Australia welcomes the Family Court’s involvement in this case where family members challenged medical care standards on behalf of their child. We are thankful for the expertise of those giving evidence in this case regarding the medicalisation of gender-questioning children.
It is not clear why medical professionals and establishments in Australia were ever permitted to promote and administer puberty blocker drugs to healthy children unaffected by medical conditions like precocious puberty or prostate cancer.
Puberty blocker drugs such as Lupron, used in now illegal conversion therapy practices on gay men (such as Alan Turing), and to chemically castrate sex offenders, have been used in Australia on physically healthy children.
LGB Alliance Australia supports Litigator Bill Kordos’s call for a public enquiry into gender clinic medical interventions Australia-wide, to determine exactly “how children are treated and diagnosed in this sphere.”
We welcome a potentially safer and brighter future for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual young people, a future where they will be emotionally, sensitively, and appropriately supported by family, friends, and their communities, with any challenges they face growing up.
