Enquiry into probity and ethics in the Australian public sector

We were pleased to act as signatories amongst a united cohort with other groups on a submission to the Parliament of Australia. The submission is listed as #10 titled ‘Coalition of Women's and LGB Organisations’ and can be found on the parliamentary website.

In particular were concerns around impartiality from consultation with community organisations and the impact on government services and the public.

The submission states:

Our purpose in making this submission is to raise our concerns that the Department of Health and Aged Care (DOHAC) has compromised its capacity to administer certain grants and provide impartial advice to the Government on specific issues as a result of its participation in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI).

AWEI is the initiative of ACON, an LGBTQ advocacy group based in New South Wales, with influence across the nation. We share the concerns with this scheme, which are detailed in the submission.

We have previously criticised ACON’s focus on gender identity, to the detriment of the LGB people it purports to represent.
