Review of Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021 - Victoria
Victoria's Review of Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021 has come up for a 2-year statutory review.
LGB Alliance Australia has written to Victorian Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes reiterating our reservations about the law, asking that the findings of the review be made public, and urging that the reviewers give full and meaningful consideration to the many significant developments since 2021.
These developments include the release of the UK's groundbreaking Cass Review into gender identity services for children and young people, the scandalous revelations of the "WPATH Files", and the move away from the "affirmation-only" approach to supporting children and young people distressed about gender.
This matters concerns LGB Alliance Australia as "gender non-conformity" and distress or confusion about one's sex are disproportionately common experiences for children and young people who, if well supported, grow up to be lesbian, gay or bisexual adults.
