Online Safety Act Review

LGB Alliance Australia welcomed the chance to contribute to the review of Australia's Online Safety Act 2021. Our submission highlighted four key concerns:

  • the impact of smartphones and social media on the wellbeing of children who may grow up to be LGB adults;

  • the use of laws and regulations against "hate speech" to silence LGB individuals who discuss the reality and importance of biological sex;

  • the apparent misuse of the adult cyber abuse reporting scheme to suppress references to biological sex;

  • and disappointing messaging about LGB Australians and online safety in eSafety public resources.

We thank our supporters for sharing their personal insights on these issues. Our paper has been submitted to the eCommissioner’s department, and we will provide updates as they become available.
