Our Latest Advocacy Work

Following the publication of the four-year, systematic Cass review of gender medicine that has banned puberty blockers and recommended ‘extreme caution’ for prescribing cross sex hormones to under 25 year olds, both the UK Labour party and the Conservatives have committed to implementing its recommendations in full. Wes Streeting, Labour’s shadow health secretary made the following public statement regarding Labour’s shift following years of promoting genderism to the public. And the current Health Secretary, Victoria Atkins’s made the following statement to parliament.

Dr Hilary Cass has also been on the media round and spoke to the British Medical Journal’s, Kamran Abassi on the review findings and the implications for the UK’s health system.

While the UK is waking up to a medical scandal that affects predominantly LGB children and youth, both Australian political parties are either ignoring or doubling down and saying - ‘Australia is different’. Yes, Australia is different because it is worse. In the absence of a healthy media landscape LGB Alliance Australia is doubling its efforts to advocate for the LGB youth are being harmed by the promotion of an ‘affirmation’ medical model.

Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and now France and Holland are all course correcting on the ‘affirmation’ medical. We all need to support push back on this homophobic, regressive ideology that shames young people for being same sex attracted and insists they should be ‘gender attracted’ instead. We wrote to every Australian politician and offered to meet with them to discuss the implications of the Cass Review for LGB youth. Here is our letter. We have received responses and will be holding a series of online events in the next few weeks.

So what can you do? We’d encourage you to find out more so you can have a conversation with anyone that might be open to understanding more about how this affects LGB youth. If you would like to get involved please contact us and we would be delighted to have you join the fight.
